The easiist place to start is your own family if they are your ancestors. If they are famous for something follow that lead.No one except for your family will have old pictures of your ancesters unless that ancestor was very prominent or you are superduper lucky to have the picture taken, preserved and for you to have found it.Remember 99.999% of all pictures taken in 1900 have been destroyed.99% of all pictures are unlabled. Check your own pictures, how many have a notation to identify all the subjects.A sensible person would ask why would the picture be taken then preserved for a century. Then you must look there.Just wanting something does not make good thing happen.
You need to track down the oldest members of your extended family.Remember, when old people move out or die their pictures usually get thrown out.Who wants pictures of unknown persons?Photos are rarely labled.Even if you found a picture of who ever, you will not know who it is unless you do lots of work and get lucky.Only, the crazy genealogists are interested in old pictures. We are getting more numerous these days.
One other genealogy generality. If you have not been contacted by a family researcher the odds are there is none.Trying to contact a relitive through a genealogy board is nearly useless and should only be a last resort. Please note I have messages outstanding for most of my family sirnames.I am not suggesting that posting messages on these boards is not a worth while endevor.Just do not count of them being answered in the next few years. The furrther back you go back on your tree the more likely your will find an active family researcher related to you.
