To the best of my knowledge there has been no diffinetive study on the longevity and archiviability of digital images.Although negatives can be fragile, if stored properly they can last for 75+ years.Ditto with prints made from negatives.Digital photography is so new that I would not use it as the primary tool for genealogy.(And I work in a camera store and sell both digital and film cameras.)The media is subject to the changes in computer technology and the prints are subject to fading, especially thermal images.
