P.S. I hate to post a response to my own posting, but I just now found the following points and wanted to add them: First of all, I found that of all those in the direct line of the Joshua Phippses who I mentioned earlier, the one with the most appropriate dates to be the father of Samuel Phipps (who married Betty Reeves) and his brothers would appear to be a Joseph Phipps. (I'm not saying that this is the father. This is pure speculation at this point!) Online pedigrees differ, but evidently the father of the Joshua Phipps who married Esther Acton was a Joseph Phipps who was born 1730 (married unknown). He is listed in the will of his father, another Joseph Phipps, the one who was born 26 Feb 1699/1700 in Delaware Co., PA. The younger of these two Josephs is believed to have died in Botetourt Co., VA. This younger Joseph would have been born around the right time to have been the father of Samuel Phipps (who married Betty Reeves). Again, I'm not saying that this is his father, but I find it interesting after all the talk about his father being a Joseph Phipps that this individual's name is Joseph Phipps. Secondly, I mentioned families associated with the Phippses in Ashe Co., NC. They were very clannish in that several of these families migrated together to Indiana and other parts. Two families associated with the NC Phippses were Osborne (Osborn) and Hash (Hashe). I just now found a web page in the excellent New River Notes website (http://www.newrivernotes.com/nrv/Paula_Anderson-Green.htm) that refers to the Osbornes and Hashes. The page says that, according to oral tradition, the Hashes and Osbornes lived near each other in Philadelphia Co., PA (around where the earliest Joseph Phipps in the Chester Co., PA line lived) and that they later "traveled south together." The page further states that this is borne out by land records and tax records in Philadelphia Co., PA. And that's not all: The article also states that the Osborne and Hashe surnames appear in Upper Dublin and Whitemarsh Townships in Philadelphia County along with the Phipps surname! Am I on to something? Are the Western NC Phippses descended from Chester Co., PA? Notify Administrator about this message?
