I'm looking for some help on Alexander Hash and Rhoda Phipps. Based upon the Mullins book on the Phipps family and other sources, I thought I was all clear on this one, but... Alexander Hash's first wife was Rhoda Phipps. (Second was Rachel Lovelace.) He was the son of Wm C. and Polly (Wingate) Hash. She was the daughter of Hugh and Edith (Standsberry) Phipps. Alexander and Rhoda married circa 1869. Alex, Rody and their daughter are all listed in the 1870 Grayson County Census records. However, I recently found the 1870 Census records for Hugh and Edith in Alleghany County, North Carolina and they list Hugh and Edith together with Rhoda "at home." Is Rody, wife of Alexander, the same as Rhoda, daughter of Hugh? Was she counted twice in 1870? Does anyone have any documentary support for the marriage of Alex and Rhoda? In short, how sure are we that Rody Hash is Rhoda Phipps? Notify Administrator about this message?
