Michel Cain posted Archibald's Obitiuary here a few years ago. I was wondering if anyone is researching this line and if anyone knows anything more about his C.W. Service. I heard that he escaped from that prison?
Archibald Phinney, after a lingering illness, died at his residence on this town Friday, July 20. The deceased was born in Sackville,N.B., 61 years ago. When a boy he came with his parents to Pembroke,Washington Co. Where he remained 11 years, and then removed to Washburn,ME. In July 1862, he enlisted in Co. F., 16th Maine and participated in the battles of Antietam,Five Forks, Spotsylvania, Wilderness,Gettysburg, Petersburg and Weldon Railroad, where he was taken prisoner and confined in Rebel stockade at Saulbury, N.C. for eight months. When he was mustered out of service he returned to Washburn and married Miss Jane Smith, by whom he had 13 children, 11 girls and 2 boys,10 of whom survive him. He was a brave soldier and died in the firm belief that Jesus Christ was the saviour of the world. the remains were interred in the cemetary Monday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. George Currie, of Caribou.(Aroostook Republican, July 26 1900.)
