Thanks for the explaination of the name spelling change. My brother-in law had always wondered why Nelson changed his name. His line comes through Orin Phinney of Wyoming Co., Pa. I am adding this branch to my tree. I am on vacation and not with my records or I would gladly tell you more.

From my side of the tree there is a Mary Finney who married Timothy McGuire 01 Dec 1758 Lancaster, Pa. There is no other info about Mary that I have found thus far. I have wondered if her family changed their spelling also.
