Hi Eddie, I'm not sure if this relates to your family, but here's an obituary that mentioned a Donald Phinney from Sackville: SACKVILLE, June 9 - The death of Ross PHINNEY, aged 58 years, on Saturday following a brief illness was learned with regret throughout this community. Mr. Phinney had been a valued employee of the Enterprise Foundry Co. Ltd., and was a highly respected citizen. He is survived by his widow and nine children, Eva (Mrs. Earl Brown) of Port Dover, Ontario; Cavell (Mrs. Charles Ayer), Bathurst, N.B.; Connie (Mrs. Brad Carter), Sackville; Ross, Jr., Otis, Kenneth, Donald and Gerald, all at home; nine grandsons, and one brother, Harold, of Renton, Washington. The funeral service will be held from the home on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. (From the Amherst Daily News Newspaper, dated Tuesday, 10 June 1952, page 4.) I'm not sure if the above obituary is complete because it mentions 9 children, but only 8 are listed. Michelle Moore has this family in her WorldConnect database (but lists 10 children). The link is: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:3090630&id=I83630 You didn't mentioned a year of birth for your grandfather or the names of his sisters. Do the names in the obit and on Michelle's database sound familiar? There's also the on-line index for the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick (PANB) at: http://archives.gnb.ca/APPS/GovRecs/VISSE/?L=EN This site provides indexes of birth, marriage and death records. I found that a Donald Seth Phinney married Violet Amelia Trenholm on 22 Sep 1951 at Sackville Parish, Westmorland Co., NB. Not sure if this is the same Donald mentioned in the obituary. Mt relation to the Phinney family is very distant so I don't have much information on them. But I am researching other families in the Sackville area and know some of the resources that are available. If you get a little farther back, there's the on-line census for both 1901 and 1911 from AutomatedGenealogy at: http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html FamilySearch has the 1881 Canadian census at: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp Another great resource is the Westmorland County GenWeb site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbwestmo/ When searching these sites, remember to try different surname variations. Originally, the family was recorded as Finney when they first arrived in New Brunswick, but it later changed to Phinney. It also has been recorded as Phinny in some records. Another hint is to also search for the names of Donald's siblings. Maybe someone from those branches may have done some family research that you can link up to. Best of luck, Neil Weatherbee Gatineau, Quebec Notify Administrator about this message?
