The IGI transcript of the 1880 Eastport, Wash Co. ME census includes this househld:

Joseph Phinney, married, 26 b.NB Fisherman both parents b.NB
Laura E. Phinney, " , 23 b.ME keeps house bth.prnts. b.ME
Oscar Trott, son, 14, b. ME fisherman fth. b.NB, mth. b.ME
Julie Burns, other, 63, b. NS. both parents b. NS.

Was Oscar Trott, the "son" adopted? Or was he Laura's son by an earlier marriage? Who was his father?

Any help appreciated.
