Here's the part I don't understand about the way you and others involved with the DNA project are acting - In the information on the site for the project, it admits that it only actually indicates about 600 years, not 1,000. And, secondly, where it comes to the Phillips family, your information about surnames and the use of the Phillips name in Wales is misleading at best. Why is that? The surname Phillips was used by Meredith Phillips and that was hundreds of years prior to the mentions you made. Why?
I've noticed a number of responses from the Phillips DNA project among the various genealogy sites since your project started, and they all seem to be the same about these things. Why is that? I don't understand. Why would you leave out the fact that a grandson of Meredith Phillips of the Wales line, served with Richard and Philip II of France on the crusades after which the crown and collar of loyalty to the British Crown was claimed on the standard of the family? That was long before the time your references make as well.
I'm all for the DNA research you are doing but I don't understand the half information, misleading information and nearly mocking responses in many of the interactions that come from your volunteers and the project promoters. Why is that important for you to do considering that even if your DNA research indicates separate family groups within 600 years or even a thousand years - it still doesn't indicate that they were completely separate and distinct at 600 AD or 800 AD - do the math.
It is certainly true that not every family with the name of Phillips may have an origin from Wales, but neither is it true what you are saying, that none of them do among the families that have already been tested from your project. It simply does not guarantee results back far enough to do that and you know it. I'm assuming all of you volunteering or being paid to promote the DNA project for the company are educated enough to have found these same historic references and to have read the page on the DNA project website which says the results only actually go back for 600 years.
The other thing I don't understand is why you simply listed all possible haplogroups as if that indicates completely separate lineages from before the time of Christ. Are you kidding? It doesn't mean that and you know it. To be perfectly honest, I had initially wanted my family members to be involved with the Phillips DNA project but after having seen so many pieces of what amounts to propaganda from the project promoters, volunteers and paid perception specialists on forums up to and including this one, I'm considering that perhaps the public needs a lot more information about this project and the kinds of information they are both collecting and selling. It is several hundred dollars to get the DNA tested, the claims being made about it are misleading and most of the website for it speaks in terms that promise things it cannot deliver. I don't know why that is either. But I am getting just about annoyed enough about it to take the time and effort to find out.
Nearly every time someone says something about the Phillips family, they receive emails to be involved in the DNA project for several hundred dollars, and get comments such as yours which absolutely mislead about the historical information available (online and in official historic records to anyone) about the clans, tribes, families, surnames, history, lineage. And, making false promises about the ability of the DNA project to assuredly indicate family relationships with certainty back through thousands of years. It just doesn't and can't yet do that. I'm tired of not saying anything about it and watching your little team of paid volunteers pushing the public around this way. It isn't fair, it isn't right and it doesn't help with what the DNA project claims to be trying to do - which is to add to the information available to families that want to know more about their lineage and history - not to undermine every last shred of the facts found in the history of mankind, including undermining the actual, literal facts that can be found in any historic, accurate document.
