Here is what I have on the family unit of John Henry Phillips, minus the pictures:
John Henry Phillips (1851-1935)
John Henry Phillips, son of Robert and Mary (Carver) Phillips, was born March 27, 1851 at Mayland, Rockingham County, Virginia and died in September 1935. The Holsinger genealogysaid that John was a fur trapper, and worked as a jailor for the Court House in Harrisonburg, but one of his grandsons told me that John did very little work in his life.John first married Emily A. Spitzer, daughter of William H. and Lucretia (Canada) Spitzer, Oct. 3, 1881 in Rockingham County. Emily was born July 11, 1860 and died Aug. 25, 1909. Five children were born to this marriage. John H. married second to Maggie Sigafoos on March 11, 1913. She was about 34 years younger than her husband.
Children of John H. and Emily A. (Spitzer) Phillips were:
1. William Robert Phillips was born Aug. 5, 1882 at Broadway, and died June 12, 1954 at Baltimore, MD. He operated a grocery store. He married: Rosa Etta Gifford, who died in July 1960. Burial was in Wood Lawn cemetery in Baltimore.
2. Isaac Franklin Phillips was born on Sept. 22, 1884 at Broadway, and died in September 1908 in Richmond, VA. Burial was in the Hollywood Cemetery.
3. Minnie Rebecca Phillips was born March 2, 1888, and died on March 5, 1938 at Harrisonburg. She married Saylor J. Knupp, son of Charles B. and Mollie (Fifer) Knupp, in August 1906. He was born April 21, 1888 and died on March 19, 1951 at Harrisonburg.
4. Twin infant was born March 2, 1888 and died March 11, 1888.
5. Bessie Lee Phillips was born April 14, 1890 and died Oct. 25, 1972. Burial was in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra, PA. She married John Milton Wampler, son of Joseph Franklin and Sallie (Snyder) Wampler, June 24, 1907, in Harrisonburg. He was born in Timberville on Feb. 2, 1886 and died May 20, 1942 at Palmyra, PA.
