Amber- How sure are you that James was born in Faquier, VA?(Incidentally, it is in VA not WV) If so then there is a William Phillips in Faqueir Co in 1830 and 1840 with a son of right age (0-5 in 1830 and 5-10 in 1840) but not there in 1850. The 1830 one list his name as William F. and the 1840 as William T. but am sure they are the same and it is a trascribing error as the ages match up for all the children and William. It lists two F age 20-30 in the 1830 (same as with Wm. ) but in the 1840 the two Females are shown as age 40-50 while Wm.'s age is listed as 30-40. That is probaly a transcribing error and the second female is a sister of either Wm. or his wife. I found in the 1880 Cenus what appears to be sons Abner (b. ca 1757) & James (b. 1754), steel workers, living together in Jackson Co. OH. It says though they and father & mother were born in Ohio. James PHILLIPS Self S Male W 23 OH Wks. At Blast Furn. OH OH Abner PHILLIPS Other S Male W 26 OH Wks. At Blast Furn. OH OH -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source Information: Census Place Precinct 1, Wellston, Jackson, Ohio It is possible that the boys having lived all their life in OH assumed that their parents were born there. Census data is often wrong on dates and places of birth. If you have good data that James was born in Faguier, VA then I would bet good money that the William cited above is the father of James. It certainly is a good starting point anyway. Rex Phillips Notify Administrator about this message?
