Help find family of James Franklin Phillips-born 1861

I am trying to help a friend trace her family history. James Franklin Phillips was an orphan and at one time was living with an African American family. He was born in October 1861, married to Josephine Marie Robert Phillips. He was born in Mississippi, she was born in Alabama. In 1920 Census, St. Landry, Louisiana was James F. Phillips age 48-Josephine Phillips age 37-Walter E Phillips age 21-
James E. Phillips age 17-Calie H Phillips age 16-Edmond Phillips age 12-Josephine Phillips age 9-William Phillips age 7-Annie E Phillips age 5. I would appreciate any help to find who the parents of James Franklin Phillips were since he was an orphan and I have no way to find out who they were. Thank You
