John Nelson Lewellen, one of Wayne county’s pioneer residents, passed away last Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bessie James, after an illness of two months of complicated diseases, at the age of 65 years.
He was born September 9th in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was a son of Wm. T. Lewellen and wife.He came with his father to Wayne county in 1850, settling east of Corydon.In 1867 he was united in marriage to Anna M. Hand, who passed away in 1901, leaving three children, three having died in infancy.The children now living are Lucy E. Brewer, of Eldon, Iowa; Phurba E. Consoliver and Bessie E. James of Corydon.
The funeral services were held Monday, conducted by Rev. C. C. Davis of the Christian church and the remains were laid to rest beside that of his wife in the Hogue cemetery.
