Yes I have been in contact with her before. But giving much respect to all family members alot of information has been posted is wrong. There is a book written by Opal Phillips ( Phillips's of Warrick County ) stated Joseph Phillips and Mary were married Dec 1, 1733 and were married in England and present at the wedding was James Pendelton ( Was This Mary's father?) Also said they came to America ca. 1735. Also stated was Miss Leo Jane Shore of Lone Jack Mo. stated she had found important papers of Joseph Phillips to Orange County, Va 1735 from Keicestershire, Eng.
I have never found a Keicestershire, England but believe it to be Leichestershire to be the right name. Also if Joseph and Mary Phillips married in December 1, 1733, then they must have made a quick trip from Leicestershire, Eng to Orange County, Virginia because Joseph Phillips on March 18, 1734 Joseph Phillips was in Louisa County, Virginia and was named overseer for George Braxton. Then by September 08, 1734 Bennett Phillips was born. For all of this to happen Joseph Phillips married Dec 1, 1733 left his wife, he in which she was with child before he left for America, took a job as overseer when he got there and sometime after Sept 8, 1734, he sent for Mary and Bennett to come to America. Because the next child was Jane Phillips in which she was born Feb 12, 1736.
So Rex to answer question I donot believe that Joseph and Mary were married in England and that Joseph Phillips married Mary in which he met her in America. Nor have I found any proof that they were married in England and the Family Bible does not say. There is nothing about Leicestershire, England in any Phillips family records anybody can prove. Now for the James Pendelton could this be Mary's father it could be, but there were a James Pendelton in Orange County, Virginia and I believe he was a consatable, but thgis james Pendelton was been to young to be Mary's father. Also the Headright of 1735 yes Joseph Phillips did recieve 50 acres for coming to America, but when did this happen according to the Headrights papers Feb 17, 1735, but Joseph Phillips was already here. If you look to see Headrights were granted from 1732 - 1735, I believe he came over to America between this time and since he came from England according to the Headrights he payed his passage to receive this land.I believe he was asked to be a overseer for George Braxton and that is why he came to America.
