Hi, Clarene,
For what it is worth, I think your Cherry Phillips was really Charity Phillips, the daughter of Willis and Phebe Phillips of Chatham County NC.Perhaps Cherry was a nickname for Charity.Willis and Phebe supposedly had 10 children named Matthew, Meredith, Charity, John, Rebecca, Susan, Laban, Benjamin, Ferraby and Edmund.Their son Laban (or Labourn) Phillips married Anna Maria Deaton and a descendant appears in Family Group 10 on the Patriarchs Page at the new Phillips Worldwide DNA Project, as Doyle so astutely pointed out. In case you are interested, the DNA signature of Family Group 10 appears to be Scottish.
Sincerely,
Nancy Kiser
Assistant Administrator

PS - A John Deaton appears on the censuses in Chatham Co NC from 1800 through 1840.
