Did Wm. Phil(l)ips (b. 1800) Marry a Nancy Doyle?
My father and a cousin told me (separately) several years ago that my 2nd-great grand-mother was Nancy Doyle. If this is true, then this "Nancy Doyle" must have been married to my ancestor William Phillips who was born 1800 in TN, who apparently lived in the Tuscaloosa and Pickens areas of Al, and who is listed with his family in the 1850 federal census of Pickens Co., AL.This William was the son of Andrew and Susan Phillips; and this William was the father of Elias, Mary, Andrew Lin/Len, and Lavina. The "Nancy" Phillips in the 1850 Pickens Co. census was listed as born in NC and listed as being 51 years of age (hence an approximate 1799 birth date).
Other than trusting the memory of my father (which was really good where relatives were concerned), I have found no verification that William Phillips married a Nancy Doyle (though William definitely did marry a "Nancy").The only Nancy Doyle that seems to fit the profile I'm looking for (i.e. married c. 1820-1822; lived in AL) is a Nancy Doyle of Lawrence Co., AL, who married Francis D. Smith. But unless Francis Smith died young and Nancy Doyle Smith went on to marry William Phillips as her second husband, this Nancy Doyle doesn't seem to be the one I'm looking for.
I would like to prove my dad correct. If anyone has information about a Nancy Doyle and William Phillips connection, I would appreciate hearing from you.Thanx.
