The 1901 and 1911 Canadian Census is available at
www.automatedgenealogy.com
The family you are looking for may be the following who are living in Colchester County in 1911
Clifton Poll District, page 16

Thomas A Philips head born Feb 1868
Maggie Philips wife born Mar 1873
Gladys Philips dau. born Sept 1903
Mathilda Philips mother (of head) widow born Jan 1820
You can view the actual record at the above site by clicking on "split view"

NS Vital Statistics from roughly 1864 to 1920 are online, free and searchable at
www.novascotiagenealogy.com
You will need to download a free viewer program available on the site to see the actual record.. If you wish to download a hard copy of the record, there is a $10 charge each. A quick search produced the death certificates of Mathilda and Thomas A. so you can get a lot of information from them.
The 1881 Canadian Census is available at
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=search_all1.asp&clear_form=true

The 1871 Census of Colchester Co and a lot of Vital Statistics are available on the Colchester Co. Genealogical site
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nscolche/index.html
Hope this is of some help
Happy Hunting
Burdette
