Re:Your relatives in Tarlac and Pampanga
My family has been involved in a thorough research and development project regarding my great great grandfather, Don Juan Martin de Arevalo, who was a former military Governor in Palawan from Spain.
Through this, we learned the elementary steps to do the research and hope that we can help you.
Your first step is to analyze the chronological status of your family tree.It seemed that yours is quite simple, because you actually have their names and dates. We had to start from scratch.
Paternal Background and Maternal background:
(a)Grandfather's NameParents' namesDates of births
(b)Their children names and theirrespective spouses
(c)Names of surviving childrendates of birth
Once you've gathered this info, write the Editor of your local Filipino newspaper and request for info regarding your family; There is a huge Filipino newspaper in New York called Filipino Reporter - write the publisher and editor. Give a little background where the family lives and where some of the children went to school. Maybe start with your parents.
Write the Mayor of Mabalacat, and copy furnish the Records
division and request how you can secure a copy of your grandparents' birth certificates or copies of their baptismal certificates.
Once you've gathered this, you can go to Philippine Star Newspaper.com or Manila Bulletin, the largest newspaper based in and put a brief Manila advertisement through them -they have US offices.
You may give them a feedback of your family tree and give out your address and email to give an actual face on your inquiry.
I don't know where you are actually located, but the Philippines News in San Francisco is the biggest newspaper in the whole United States. You can look for their site and find out how you can be featured in their Dear Editor column.
Knowing your family tree is so exciting. It's so valuable because it's your name!
We are actually planning to have a reunion in October. This may be a good time to get together with your relatives here and abroad.
Good luck!
Juan Carlos III
