Sorry everyone...the date of the entry is 1885. I have concluded from the inscription, and help from a couple of Philbrick researchers!, the inscription refers to Kennebec County, and Gardiner as the town. I checked the 1880 Census for Gardiner, but did not find L. Edwin Philbrick. Still hoping someone will have the answers for me. What was his occupation? And, what was his connection to my gr great grandfather, George W. Hadley.
