I am pursuing Smith Phetteplace, born about 1803, married to Ruth, who had a son named James O. Phetteplace. They were in New Berlin, Chenango Co, NY in 1840 and 1850, and Smith is in Sauk Co, WI in 1860. James' Civil War pension files state that he was in Lone Rock, WI in 1861, but I can't find him in the 1860 census -- either in NY or WI.

Does anyone know Smith or Ruth's parents? Or anything else about the family?
