Mary Virginia Phelps, 91, of Rutledge, TN, passed away
peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at her home
surrounded by her loving family.
Born September 1, 1917, she was a faithful member of Helton
Springs Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carson Phelps;
and children, Brenda, Ronald, Doyal and Marshall.
She is survived by her loving children, sons, Kenneth
Phelps of Blaine, TN, Lewis and Charles Phelps of Rutledge,
TN; and daughters, Bonnie Williams and Dorthy Phelps of
Rutledge, TN, and Freda Hern of Blaine, TN; 16 grand-
children; and a large number of great and great-great-
grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday
prior to the service.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2009,
in the Smith–Reagan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.
Allen Shupe, the Rev. Dwight Wolfe and the Rev. Travis
Bowden officiating.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, March 14,
2009, in Mary’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Bean
Station, with grandsons serving as Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family request consideration of
donations to Mary’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery fund.
