To anyone who has an interest in this I have been searching for William Phelps, Sr.(1599 - 1672) original house and land and where he might have been buried on July 15, 1672 in Windsor CT. He died on July 14, 1672 and was buried on the 15th. I also found that he died in the home. The maps of old Windsor do not show the correct location for some reason. The maps have the homestead father North then what it truly is. There is a William Phelps, Jr house still standing built around 1670 it shows the address of 124 East Street but yet all town records show it to be 122 East street. I found some old newspaper clippings from the Hartford Times(no longer a company) dated 1956 and 1960 that shows the house of Hon. D Judge Phelps at 102 East Street. It states that this was once the home of William Phelps and the original homestead. I drive by this spot everyday but what is there is a Veterans Cemetery only and you can imagine that there once was more houses here. The Newspaper went on to say that this was called the Buckland House (not Phelps) in 1960 and it was the Town Farm. They did not seem to think it was safe so they tore it down to make the Veterans' Cemetery larger in 1961. What it also said is that there was a small cemetery that was on this property. That small cemetery is gone now. So now I am going to see if I can find out where they moved that small cemetery. This also means that Williams sons, William Jr, and Samuel were probably there as well and are now gone because I have never seemed to find their plots as well. I have always said that there was to way many Phelps that have died in Windsor but there is not enough gravestones to show for all of them. I always said that the town has hidden or just destroyed our families plots. If anyone is interested please let me know as I can share this information with you.
