Yes, I remember writing to Marion. She was a good corespondent. I have gotten out the of habit of writing using regular mail. I have a lot of the same sort of information you posted had that was collected by a relative who lived in Watergate. Her collection is in manuscript form in the Dallas Library. She is Ellen King Monk. A book with some of the information is a book "Letters from the Phelps family, Wilson County, Tennessee, 1848 to 1916." [transcribed by] Ellen King Monk. 1957, 235 leaves bound. In Dallas Central library CGC-8th-reference Noncirculating. 929.20973 P541Y There is a letter in that book from your George's nephew Thomas Phelps (son of Thomas) who went to the Gold Rush in California. He and his brother went and he was almost drown in a river on the way. There is a good description on this in one of the history books. Also they had a farm in the Central Valley west of Sacramento, where they are buried. Neither one was married. Another book is "The Phelps of Lawson's Bottom and most of their relatives", compiled by Harry H. Ellis, 1914-. 231 pp. 1987. Published by author, Dallas, TX. Central-CGC-8th-Reference, non-circulating. 929.20973 P541YE 1987 I have discovered that your George and my John had a brother Benjamin, d. 1895, who's wife is sister of your George's wife. Their youngest daughter Margaret was a history teacher at Independence High School. She was Harry Truman's favorite teacher. I do not have a picture of her. Her brother's picture is on the internet, he was a Union soldier who was shot in Mississipi near the end of the Civil War: Joseph W Phelps killed Sept 17, 1864, Natchez, MS. If you would like to correspond please respond by e-mail. Thanks. Gordon Notify Administrator about this message?
