Marie (Phelan) Burke, 92, of Natick, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 6, 2010, at St. Patricks Manor in Framingham. She was the beloved wife of the late Hon. Walter T. Burke, Esq., former state representative to the General Court for the 5th Middlesex District, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (OConnor) Phelan, Mrs. Burke was raised and educated in Newton, where she graduated from Newton High School. She went on to study and graduate from Lasell Junior College. After graduation, Mrs. Burke married her husband and dedicated her life to raising her family. A very active member of the Natick community, Mrs. Burke was a member of the Natick Mothers Club, a Cub Scout Den Mother and member of the League of Women Voters. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and politics. Mrs. Burke was the devoted mother of John P. Burke of Ashland, Paul G. Burke of Natick, Peter M. Burke andhis wife, Janice, of Natick and Michael W. Burke and his wife, Patricia, of Natick. She was the cherished grandmother of Daniel, Kaitlyn, Michael, Brian and Sean. She was predeceased by her siblings, Francis, John, Elizabeth and Katherine. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend her funeral Wednesday, May 12, at 9 a.m., at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St. (at Natick Common), Natick, followed by her Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m., at St. Patricks Church. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, South Natick. Visiting hours are Tuesday, May 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. Those wishing to remember Mrs. Burke may do so through memorial donations to the Natick VNA, 209 West Central St., Natick, MA 01760.
