The News (Frederick Co., Maryland) 23 February 1905.Columbus Phebus age 49 a native of New Market died at his home in Plainfield, New Jersey on 16 February, after a lingering illness of two years froman accident.Survived by his wife and three children (not named) Survived by Mother, Mrs. (Peter UAB) Emeline (Bowman UAB) Phebus, two sisters and one brother Jacob of New Market.Widely known as a horse fancier and dog trainer at Bernardsville master of hounds for Somerset Club.
His Mother’s will dated 1915 Frederick County, MD“I bequeath to my grandchildren, Claud Phebus, Percy Phebus and Columbus Phebus the picture of my deceased son F. C. Phebus and his wife, taken together, which hangs on the wall in my house.”Census records New Market, Frederick Co., Maryland.1860 census he was Columbus, 1870 he was Frances and 1880 he was T. Columbus.
