Hi Warren,
Thanks for replying to me inquiry.

This is the information I know from the documents that I have. My basic HS French is still with me so I understand the French enough to know what I am reading! I am unsure of the spelling of some of the names - noted- because this is a scan of an original certificate and the script is quite fancy:

Certifictae de Baptime
Eglise
St Louis, West Springfield, MA
Je, Sousigne, Certifie
que: Jos. Raymond Edward
Parrain: Achilles (?) Phaneuf Sr
Marraine: Celina Forget (Forgel ?)
tel qu'il appert dans le Registre des Baptemes des cette Eglise
12th Fev 1941 R. A. LaPonta-Cure (spelling?)

According to my grandfather's birth certificate:
name: Raymond Edward Phaneuf
born: Springfield, MA
residence of parents: West Springfield, MA
birthplace of father: Canada (this is all, nothing more specific)
Maiden name of mother: Alva Deguise
birthplace of mother: Burlington, VT
date of original record: Jan 23, 1920

I know my grandfather Raymond E had a brother, Robert. I am not sure which of the two was born first. I am thinking that Raymond was older than Robert.

I have no additional information for Armand - no birth or death dates. I know from my dad that he died fairly young - around 40 years of age, and possibly in Springfield MA. My father never knew him and seems to think he died before my father's birth, which is why I suspect a death date of before 1942. This is my basis for a suspected birth date of very late 1800's/very early 1900's. My father's gramdmother - Alva - remarried at least once. The additional surname for her that I know is "Ryder" - and I do have quite a bit of information on her Deguise family.

It is Armand that stumps me. In all the research I have done (I've been working on my and my husband's lines for the better part of 10 years) I have never come across an Armand Phaneuf whose dates or places of residence, birth, etc, fit into my family, not even on a census report. I also have never found my grandfather's name on a census report, which seems odd to me, since I have found census records of many others in my family tree. This is why I am wondering if Armand went by another name. I have not found any clues.

I am just hoping that someone has seen or knows an Armand Phaneuf as a sibling to someone in their Phaneuf research. I have had luck confirming information on others in my family tree by researching siblings, but have no information to go on here.

It seems I have known the story of Claude Matthias forever, and would love to find my family's connection to him.

Sorry for the long message, but I figured I would give you all the information that I have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Courtney
