Kristin, Thanks for your response as well. This is my first try to give and recieve information on the internet and I am thrilled. My grandmother's maiden name was Mann. Her family came from Germany. I go back as far as 1681 with Hans Mohn as they spelled it in Germany. His son was Jerg Bernhardt Mohn born in 1701 in Huffendardt-Baden Wurtenburg. He married Anna Margretha Geisser in September 1723. They had 7 children. Jacob 9-21-1732, Georg Adam in 3-1734, Georg Carl in 8-1735, Georg Cunradt 4-25-1737, Catarina 5-6-1739, and 1 more Catarina 8-24-1741. All of these children were born in Peaked Mountain Virginia where Jerg and Anna settled after coming to America. Jerg was a Palataine and at age 31 arrived in Philadelphia September 21, 1732. He had left a land devastated by wars for a hundred years. Mohn had made the trip down the Rhine to Rotterdam perhaps in six weeks, possible four. Mohn and his traveling companions had left Rotterdam on the Pink Plaisance.. This was a crude and simple ship but with sterling qualities, but sea worthy. When the ship landed the english clerks wrote the names phonetically. Jerg Bernhart Mohn became George Bernhart Man. To the Germans the spelling was not of primaray importance. His signature is on the list of Palatines imported on the Pink Plaisance. Within a year or less after their arrival the Man family made another journey, this time by pack-train, to the far frontier in Lancaster County, sixty-six miles west of Philadelphia. George and his family became Lutherans and I have (from a book) a copy of the baptisms, marriages, deaths and confirmations of their children at the Trinity Lutheran Church May 1, 1730. George bought 142 acres of land to farm. I have a book written by a "cousin" who has since passed away with all this information in it. She hired someone in Germany to research a lot of this for her. Most of the children stayed in Kentucky, some moved to Virginia, Ohio, Missouri and Kansas. The Peyton sisters Elizabeth born 1806 in Carlisle Kentucky married Jacob Mann February 2, 1826 in Nicholas Co., Kentucky. She had Mahathlin in 1827 and Elias in 1829. She died shortly after his birth, and Jacob married her sister Mary. They had 4 children, David in 1832, Catherine in 1835,Angeline in 1837 and the 4th child Mary I have no date of birth. Their parents were Stephen and Mary Williams Peyton. Her father was James and her mother's maiden name was Millican. I have the following: Stephen was born in Gloucester County Virginia in 1756 and died during the cholera epidemic in Carlisle Kentucky June 17, 1833. He was married in Huntingdon Pa., to Mary. Stephen and Mary moved to Ky., cir. 1799 and bought 36 acres of land in Nicholas Co., January 5, 1880; also an additional 50 acres April 3, 1803. Stephens parents were William and Sarah West Peyton and I could go on and on, as I already have. This gives you a little more information on Mann and Peyton families. If you are interested, I can send you more later. Thanks again and tell me how you are related to this family. Notify Administrator about this message?
