Sorry to put all of this information in pieces, but I just found the correspondence from Larry dated September 2006. Larry, you suggested then that you "didn't think Thomas is the son of Robert and Ann Payton because after Robert died in 1785, there is very strong evidence that his wife, Ann, took the young children and removed to Wilkes, Co., CA about 1786--this being the case why didn't Thomas go with his mother to GA...Using your birthdate for Thomas of 1760 would have meant that Robert would have been 15 years old at the time of his birth and Ann Rush Payton would have been 14 years at the the of the birth of Thomas". (Robert Peyton was born 9/1/1745). So, nothing was proven one way or another, but it is true that this isn't all fitting together very nicely. I have guessed that it was our Thomas Peyton who was marrying Rachel Rogers in 1778, so if that is our Thomas Peyton, then he was probably born about 1760, not 1765---however, others in the Thomas Peyton Family, think that may not have been our Thomas Peyton who married this Rachel Rogers (from Granville Co., NC marriage records), and that our Thomas Peyton may have married later as his daughter Sarah Peyton wasn't born until 1793. If that is the case then Thomas Peyton's BD could have been 1765 (when Robert Peyton was 20 years old). The two ladies we suspect being sisters of our Thomas Peyton were Elizabeth Peyton, who married John Duncan in 1782 and Mary Peyton, who married Henry Hays in 1783. In order for these 2 ladies to have been daughters of Robert Peyton and Ann Rush, they would have had to have been born after 1765 also, which is possible with these marriage dates. According to later census data our Thomas Peyton could have been born anytime between 1765-1775. So, I think these birthdates do not count out the possibility of them being the children of Robert Peyton and Ann Rush. If they all got married before 1786 that would explain why Ann Rush Peyton didn't take them down to Georgia. I know there were other Peytons in the area, but I still keep wondering about this Robert Peyton and Ann Rush. I wonder if there are any descendants of their daughter, Ann Peyton Cochran, who have further information? Is there any evidence that Ann Ruth Peyton took more than one child down to Georgia with her?
