Stephen Pettus, Susanna Pettus and Evan Ragland

Stephen Pettus is my 7th great grandfather. I descend from his daughter Susanna who married Evan Ragland. They were in New Kent Co., VA. Stephen is reported to have died about 1686 in New Kent Co., VA.

I have researched the Pettus family but the generations seem complex as to Stephen's correct linege back to England. I am looking for information as to his parentage.
Any help would be appreciated.
