This message is for those forum members who have inquired about the status of my forthcoming book on the Pettus family. Several weeks ago, I printed a proof copy of my book for the first time from my home PC. I discovered that my old PC (purchased in 2000) lacked the speed and memory to do the job. Some pages would not print. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a new PC and printer. The new PC is equipped with Microsoft Vista(R), which introduces a host of new hardware/software compatibility issues, not the least of which is compatibility with the old version of Microsoft Word(R) that I have been using for many years. Besides the conversion problems, I have also had to face the fact that, even with two volumes, each one would be the size of a telephone book for a mid-size city. Since size also drives cost, I have been revising formats to reduce the size of the book. I just finished the revisions for one chapter. I will have to go through all 34 chapters and 16 appendixes to make similar formatting changes to achieve a uniform style. This should also result in a more reader-friendly book. The book consists of a series of numbered biographies, arranged in proper genealogical sequence, followed by the evidence analysis needed to establish where problematic individuals fit on the family tree. So, I am still hard at work and will post another message when the formatting revisions are complete. Notify Administrator about this message?
