Hello,

Thanks so much for responding to my query and thank you for sending the link--I'd not seen that before. Someone wrote and told me that Benjamin D. Pettit was the son of Isaac Pettit. I didn't see Isaac on the Ancestry site. Benjamin seems to have been a very popular name in this family. Benjamin D. was listed in the Stafford County militia records in 1803 and 1808-1810. I've abstracted the militia records and am now trying to compose brief biographical footnotes for as many of the men as possible. There were a number of Pettits included in these records, including Hezekiah, Jacob, and Jesse. I checked the Ancestry site for Benjamin D., but will now look for the other three.

Thanks again!
Jerrilynn
