In case it is of interest to anyone, there is a nice portrait of Mr. A. H. Pettit posted on DeadFred.com:
This portrait of Mr. A. H. Pettit appears on the illustration page facing page 37 in The Canadian Horticulturist, vol.XV, no.2, 1892. There is a biographical sketch of him on pages 37-38 of that volume. He was born in 1836, one account refers to him as "Hamilton A. Pettit" but that may be a confusion of his initials. He had some experience in diary farming but turned to fruit farming. In 1878 Mr. Pettit was instrumental in forming the Grimsby Fruit Growers' Association and was elected its first president. He served on other agricultural associations as well. He was very involved in horticulture.
