Anne, The way I interpret that passage was that Fountain Blue was occupied by Pettigrews in 1882, not at the time of the marriage of Margaret Beale. So, a Pettigrew might have bought the place sometime after that marriage. If so, the purchaser might be a child of Matthew W. Pettigrew, since they were the only Pettigrews in Botetourt Co. after 1850. His sons were Lucian B., William G., John A., and Thomas W. Alternatively, Matthew himself might have bought Fountain Blue and renamed it Melrose Plantation. This was located in Eagle Rock, Botetourt Co. Perhaps trying to trace the Pettigrew properties in Botetourt Co. will yield one that was formerly called Fountain Blue. As I understand, Matthew owned several thousands of acres, so it is entirely possible he bought other plantations. Bev Notify Administrator about this message?
