Where's my Pettibone link?
Ross Pettibone 10/22/99
I was just browsing in my copy of the book "History of St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties, New York" and ran across the name Roswell Pettibone.(I am not related in any way so far as I know, just had some time to spare and thought I'd check into some of the interesting names listed in the book.)He was the Reverend Roswell Pettibone, a Presbyterian minister, installed in February 1839 as pastor of the church in Canton, New York. This book was published originally in 1853 and Roswell was still the pastor as of that date.He is also listed several times in the Preface as one to whom the author, Franklin B. Hough, is indebted for information.
The book has a lousy index and Pettibone is not listed, so looking for him elsewhere in the book is quite an undertaking. If you think it's worth investigating, I'll be glad to do some reading for you but it will take a while -- kind of like looking for a needle in a haystack. The book doesn't give very extensive biographical information on anyone, and reading 1853 prose is quite a challenge. At least it's not handwritten.
