Need help in finding documented information as to the parents of Jeremiah Petrie, b c1813, living in Ohio Twp., Herkimer Co, NY on the 1860, 70, & 80 censuses.
According to a history of the HORTON family, Jeremiah married, in January 1837, Harriet Horton. [This history does not give places of birth, marriage, or death...] They had children: Sophronia, b 1838; Hayden J., b 1840, killed in Civil War at Battle of Fair Oaks in 1862; Emily J., b 1845; and Sherman L., b 1852. Harriet died in 1854, and Jeremiah married Anna/Susanna Lamphere and had several more children including a William, b 1847 and d 1938. Sophronia, who married William H. Campbell and moved to Steuben Co, NY, named a son Hayden, obviously after her brother who died in the war.
In message 74 in this forum, the person posting was researching a William, b 1847, who named his son Hayden. I suspect this is the William named above, the son of Jeremiah and Anna/Susanna (Lamphere) Petrie. The dates are right, and the circumstance of naming a son Hayden makes sense.
I have seen info out there on the web about the possible parentage for Jeremiah, but it just seems very "iffy" to me. I'd like to see some sort of verifiable documented proof of who his parents were.
Just for the record, I am not related. I am doing this research for a friend who is a descendant through Jeremiah's daughter, Sophronia Petrie Campbell. Thanks very much for any clues offered.
