Hello Angela, i have the following story to tell. The greatgranddaughter of Lizzy Petit/Cantwell Joseph Green has related the following to me. Her Grandmother's family didn't want her marrying Caldwell as his mother Lizzy was half native and that Lizzy's father, Joseph Petit, was a full blooded native. The census records list Joseph as French and the 1901 census list his skin colour as white. I have Mary Petit married to Frank Solas(Saulis, Solis),who are listed as living on Tobique Indian Reserve in the 1901 and 1911 census, she is listed as French, skin colour as white. Frank's racial origin is listed as a Malaseet and skin colour is red and the children are all listed as Malaseet and skin colour as red. Florence Petit married a Michel/Mitchell Laporte, who are listed as living on Tobique Indian Reserve in the 1901 and 1911 census, she is listed as French and skin colour as white and he is listed as Cree and skin colour as red on the 1901 and their child is listed as Cree.The 1911 census has Florence listed as a widow.
