I am looking for my G-Grandfather's Parents and siblings in Sweden. John H. Gudmundtsson changed his name to Peterson when he came to New York in 1880 to avoid the mandatory military service and get on with making his fortune. His Father's name was Bengt. He left behind 3 older brothers and an older sister as well as a younger sister named Selma b. 1863. In the U.S. he would work in the stel and ship yards, become a dairy farmer then later a wheat farmer, NYC to St. Louis to SW Missouri. About 1883 he had saved up and sent for Selma who travelled under the name Selma Peterson and later married a C. O. Buren. John married twice, first to Augusta Lundquist in 1885. They had two daughters Lillian 1886 and Winnie 1887. Second he married Hattie Hultgren in 1892 and had 12 more children including my grandfather Arthur Harold Peterson. His daughters by Augusta did not live with him. John died Feb 22, 1932 in Kings Prarie, MO. He did keep in touch with the family in Sweden via mail.
