A biography of Peter Peterson is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 846.
Peter was born, 7 Aug 1880, the eldest child of Jacob Petersen, (the father spelled his surname in the Danish tradition) born in Aalborg, Denmark, 27 Mar 1839, grew up in Denmark and in 1866 came to the US. He worked his way through Michigan, to Omaha, Nebraska, then in 1878 located to Corning, IA. He became a prosperous farmer in Adams County, IA. Jacob Petersen married Anna Larsen, born in 1857, Jutland, Denmark. Children of Jacob and Anna Petersen: Peter (Shawmut, MT); Andrew (Forestburg, SD); Anna (Mrs. L.O. Jensen, Omaha, NE); Iloe (Mrs. L.A. Jensen, Omaha); James B. (Corning, IA); Mary (Mrs. Leo Shinn, Corning, IA); Harry W. (Shawmut, MT).
Peter was educated in the schools of Iowa and lived on his father's farm until age 21. After that, he farmed in Adams County, IA, for three years; subsequently was a blacksmith for three years. In 1906, he moved to Tulia, Swisher County, TX, and conducted a store for three years, and for another three years was manager of a business at Happy, TX. In 1912, he located to Omaha, NE, and was a motorman for the Omaha Street Railway until Feb 1915. On 1 Mar 1915, he arrived in Grass Range, MT, and filed on a homestead of 160 acres, and bought 160 more and developed a farm 13 miles north of Grass Range. He was appointed deputy sheriff of Fergus county, MT. On 15 Dec 1917, he began working for the Montana Lumber County at Grass Range. On 23 May 1918, the company transferred him to Shawmut as manager of the local lumber yards. He became treasurer of the Shawmut Chamber of Commerce, and acquired considerable local real estate.
