Hi Doris-
I have a number of Benjamin's in the Peterson lines I'm following, but none fit the profile you provided. Do you know if he and Mary were wed in NJ? If so, I'll poke around a bit and see if I can find anything on the Millspaugh surname. That might at least suggest which part of NJ he came from.
Oddly enough, a few weeks before receiving your msg, I did find a tie-in for some of the Peterson families in my original post- and it's another Benjamin!
Benj. Peterson, b. in New Egypt, Ocean Co., NJ; d. 1840 in Sayreville, Middlesex Co., NJ
m. Vashti Dunfee (b. abt. 1780)March 08, 1798, in Monmouth Co., NJ.Their children included Ann (m. ??? Weston), Capt. James K., Margaret (m. George Norman), and Capt. Thomas, all of whom are buried in Washington Monumental Cemetery, So. River, Middlesex Co., NJ.Your 1801 Benjamin would fit, buthis parents' birthplaces would not (though I've only secondary sources giving my Benjamin's birthplace as New Egypt).
Sorry I couldn't be of help.
Regards,
Dick in Princeton, NJ
