Neils Peterson, b. 1876, Denmark, NE, IA
Neils (Nels, Neles, Neals) Peterson/Pederson/Petersen is a brother to my grandmother Marie Caroline Kirstine Pederson Gram, from Copenhagen, Denmark. He was 11 years when he came to the USA, in 1887. I did find him on the 1910 and 1920 censuses with his family. His wife was Christina (Von Smith/Schmidt?) and she immigrated from Sweden. He had been married for 11 years on the 1910 census. Their first child was born in Nebraska and the other children were born in Iowa.
My father, Emil Einar (Einar Emil)Gram and his brother, Elmer Constantin Gram, immigrated to the USA in 1908 and 1906.When he arrived here at age 16, my Uncle Elmer went to live in Marcus, IA, with his Uncle Neils Jensen Pederson, and his family. My father joined them in 1908 at the age of 16.
Neils' children were Myrtle, Alice, Helga, Opal and Effie. There may have been a boy, name unknown.According to my uncle there were between "11 and 13 children - all girls and one boy".The last my uncle remembered, Neils moved to Souix City, IA in 1930 where he worked at the "Majestic Theater".
I am really more interested in finding information on my father, but I seem to be having better luck with the Peterson's.
If any of this sounds familiar to anyone I would love hearing from you.
Regards,
Anita G. Berry
