Louise Elnora Van Heuvelen was born March 18, 1949 to George H. and Elnora M. (Resen) Petersen, Pipestone. She was baptized and confessed her faith in the Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, where she also attended elementary school. Louise then attended Edgerton High School, graduating in 1967, before enrolling in the Naeve Hospital School of Nursing, Albert Lea, where she received her degree as a registered nurse.

She married Eugene E. Van Heuvelen on July 16, 1971 at the Zion Lutheran church in Hardwick. They made their home on a farm between Chandler and Woodstock, and Louise was an RN for the Pipestone County hospital for three years. She then took some time to raise a family before going back to her nursing career. She worked at Murray County Medical Center in Slayton for several years before going back to work for the Pipestone County Medical Center, where she worked for 18 years as an RN, until her health forced her to retire in the spring of 2007. During those years she was a preceptor for nursing students and was also a chemo nurse for the hospital.

She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Chandler, where she was a past member of the choir, active in the women’s guild and a GEMS counselor. In the past she also was a leader of the Weighdown Workshop, a 4-H leader and a member of the Minnesota Nurses Association, serving as union steward for the nurses in Pipestone.

She is survived by her husband, Gene, Woodstock; one son, Gerold (Robyn) Van Heuvelen, Woodstock; two daughters, Emily (Zach) McFarland, Lake Wilson and Eunice (Jeff) Boerboom, Hadley; three grandchildren; two brothers, Henry (Ann) Petersen, Hardwick and Dale (Jean) Petersen, Park Rapids; and one sister-in-law, Rosie Petersen, Sioux Falls, S.D.

She was preceded in death by three infant sons, Gary, Galen and Glen, one brother, Loren Petersen and one infant sister.
