Backelen, Petersen-BayCo Mich Hudiksvall
My grandmother was Catherine Jenny BROWN.Her parents were George BROWN and Anna BACKELEN. Anna (born June 13, 1888, died abt December 1943) was born in Gottenburg, Sweden, according to oral stories from my now deceased grandmother (her memory was faulty on other information, so this may not be correct either.I received some information that the family came from Hudiksvall, Sweden in 1882).George and Anna lived in Bay City, Michigan USA and had children named Hulda, Mildred, Catherine, and Harold).
Anna's parents were Gustave BACKELEN (born ???? in Sweden, died abt 1926 in Bay City, Michigan USA) and Anna Caroline PETERSEN (born ???? in Sweden, died abt 1928 in Bay City, Michigan USA).Their children were Jennie, Albertina, Hulda, Anna, and Charles.
Anna Caroline PETERSEN may have had a brother named John.
(Now we start going forward in time.)
Anna Caroline PETERSEN also had a sister named Carolina, born in 1846.She died in 1932 and is buried in Fraser Township (near Pinconning), Bay County, Michigan. She married an Andrew NEWBERG (1843-1910) also buried in Fraser Twp.Andrew and Carolina had the following children: Venda (born abt 1881, died between 1858 and 1965) Oscar E. (born 1878) and Jeanette (born abt 1888)
Venda married an Olie HANSON on Sept. 3, 1903 Fraser Township, Bay County, Michigan (Bay County 1903 Marriage Returns, Volume 1, page 197, #9438. Married by D. Gardiner, Minister, witnessed by Ed Hanson and Albertina Barkelton (sic) of Bay City.) and had a daughter named Alice HANSON.Alice married a William JONES.Alice taught in a one-room school house before school consolidation efforts began; the schoolbell was in my front yard when I grew up, and Alice showed me the joys of stamp collecting.
Oscar E. NEWBERG married ??? and had chidren named Jenny, Andrew, and Ellen.
Jeanette NEWBERG (1888-1942) married a Phillip ANDERSON of Pinconning, Fraser Twp, Bay County Michigan (born ???? died about 1971).The Anderson house is the house I grew up in, in the basement you could see the hand-hewn logs that they cut supporting the house, it was a log house underneath the more modern siding.
If you are connected to this family in any way I would greatly ap[preciate hearing from you.If you have any ideas on where to start researching this family in Sweden, I would appreciate any pointers you may give.I'm particularly interested in Gustave Backelen and Anna Caroline Petersen, as they are my great 2nd Great Grandparents.
