Peter Bayes/Bays (Sarah Bybe/Bibb) was, unquestionably, my 6th great grandfather, but, beyond that, there are questions.
One group maintains Peter was the son of Edward Bayes, Sr. and Anne Harris Bayes, and they have some deeds and Anne's father's will which offers some support.
Another group maintains that Peter was Pierre Beze, a French Huguenot refugee, whose name was anglicized to Peter Bayes, later Bays, and who was an original founder of the Mankin Colony.
The Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia accepted for membership a 1973 application from George Fuller Walker based upon Peter Bayes. In his application, Professor Walker stated that Jane Bayes, daughter of Peter Bayes (Sarah Bybee/Bibb) married Rev. William Walker, Jr., that Walker's parents were Joel Walker and Holly Berry Persons, and there is where the Persons family enters.
We know that Peter had a daughter, Jane, and we belive she married Rev. William Walker, Jr.The Bayes family and the Walker family seemed to "recycle" given names for their male children, i.e, Peter, William, Joel, John, and James.
Professor walker wrote Persons Lineage, and I understand you have a copy.He refers to pages 43 thru 45 and 87 thru 97.I have read the publication and that portion covering "Walker", but cannot find the copies I ran off and do not know where I filed them.
Please examine Persons Lineage and these pages and advise if you find anything that will help me.Thanks.
