My Perry genealogy is in several libraries in Texas and contains the ancestors and descendants of the commodores.Libraries in Texas are: Clayton (Houston), Fort Bend County PL, Dallas Public Lib, Beaumont PL, San Antonio PL.For a complete list of libraries with a copy of this book go to:
http://www.hal-pc.org/~wmewrght/library.htmlhttp://www.hal-pc.org/~wmewrght/library.html
Title of the book is "Ancestors and Descendants of William Browning Greene and Mary Hoxsie Lewis with Allied Families."
Pretty hard for Samuel (b 1742) to be a descendant of OHP since OHP was b in 1785.There are lots of Samuel Perrys in my book, but there are no Whitlocks listed in the index.
Your Samuel may be descended from one of the other Sandwich or Massachusetts Colony Perrys. They are often lumped together as siblings, but no proof exists that they are related.
Interestingly, a branch of the RI Perry family did migrate to Texas and owned land in Harris Co. in 1836.In Casey's Perry genealogy is simply referred to Capt. James Perry who lived in Galveston. After chasing Perrys in RI for years, I decided to find the ones in my "backyard."What a family!!Ball High School in Galveston is named for a son-in-law, a park in downtown Houston is named for another son-in-law, League City is named for a grandson-in-law, and I think that American General Insurance may have been founded by a descendant.I chased this family to Austin and then to southern Oklahoma and then back to the gulf coast in Texas.
Capt James Perry who moved to Texas was a 3rd cousin, 1 generation removed from the commodores. My own relationship is a 3rd cousin, 6 generations removed -- and my family claimed we were related to OHP!
