Perry family in Isle of White, VA and Perquimans, NC

Hi - I am trying to learn more about my early Perry ancestors in the US. I think there is reliable information tracing my ancestors at least back to Ezekiel Perry who lived in Perquimans, NC. There seems to be at least a couple of theories regarding Ezekiel's ancestory, however, and I would appreciate help sorting them out.

All sources seem to agree that Ezekiel's family was connected to Perry & Lane, a prominent shipping company engaged in trade between London and the English colonies in Virginia that was led by Sir Micajah Perry during the latter half of the Seventeenth Century. It appears that several of Micajah's relatives immigrated to the Tidewater section of Virginia and North Carolina during this period, including my ancestors. However, the identities of these family members is somewhat tangled.

One theory (which seems to be adopted in the 1909 history "Perry Family of Hertford Co.") is that Ezekiel's father was Micajah's brother, Benjamin Perry, who was born in England and immigrated first to Virginia and then to Perquamins, and that died March 11, 1788. Under this theory, Ezekiel was Micajah's nephew.

A second theory is that Ezekiel is descended from Phillip Perry, b. 1599, who was Micajah Perry's uncle, and who immigrated to Isle of White, VA, in about 1650. This theory suggests that Phillip had a son, John, around 1650, and that John's son Benjamin (b. around 1700 in Perquimans) was Ezekiel's father.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone can help clear up the confusion. Thanks in advance for the help.
