Nelson Perkins of London, Ontario
Does anyone recognize Nelson Perkins of London, Middlesex County, Ontario early to mid 1800's?Nelson Perkins married Melinda Lord nee Carroll 1827 St. Thomas, Elgin Co., Ontario.Melinda was the daughter of Abraham Carroll of London and Middlesex County, and the widow of Mr. Lord.
Nelson gave his residence as London (Ontario) at the time of his marriage. He is very likely the Nelson Perkins who was keeping an inn/tavern in London in 1856.Melinda was widowed by 1871, but parts of the 1851 and 1861 censuses are missing so it's difficult to pin Nelson down further. He is probably the Nelson Perkins who owned a lot in the Gore Cemetery, London, and is buried there, although I understand the cemetery is no longer in existance.
Another Nelson Perkins married Hariet Senny in London 1846.One would surmise he is a son to Nelson and Melinda, although he was young to marry, given the marriage date of his "parents."
I cannot find a trace of this Nelson in any census records, although a London or St. Thomas newspaper reported in 1888 that "Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Perkins went to Dakota," and that "Mrs. Perkins, daughter of Carroll of London" went with him.
Melinda would have been in her 80's at that time. Not impossible, I suppose.I lose her after that, not knowing which Dakota, and Nelson doesn' show up in the 1900 census in either state.Does anyone recognize Nelson Sr. or Jr.?Was there really a Jr.?Who was the Nelson of London who married Hariet?
