I have received some information from Ismall's brothers grandson so I will post it so that anybody looking for info will have it. I will not post his name because I don't have permission, but if you post a follow-up, I'm sure he'll see:
Did they know that one of Ismall’s brothers, Garnett Perkins is buried at the San Francisco National Cemetery at Presidio, California, near the Golden Gate Bridge? He died in 1913 at Tientsin, China while serving in the military. The United States had troops there due to the earlier Boxer Rebellion. His mother, Margaret “Linnie” Parks Perkins, told my mother that it was nearly a year before his body was returned and buried at the cemetery. She traveled from Kentucky to California for the ceremony.
I do remember that some people on the Parks side of the family did have a dark completion, and the high cheek bones that are associated with the Cherokee. It's difficult to trace any Indian ancestry in this area. First anyone in the 1800's tried to hide the fact that were an Indian. President Andrew Jackson basically persecuted them with his policies. Anyone that was 1/16 Indian or Black was considered a "Person of Free Color" and lost most of their civil rights.
