Seeking information about a J.H. Perkins. According to the 1880 US Census, he is found in Saint Francis, Lee, Arkansas. Birth year about 1848, born in Mississippi. Father and mother both born in South Carolina. His wife Louisa H. is listed as being born about 1857. Children are Louisa L. (b. 1877) and Minnie (b. 1880). Also in the household are Caroline Perkins (b. 1857) and A.H. Chalness (b. 1847) I believe these are children of Calvin Perkins and Louise Allen Blakeney. According to my data, both Calvin and Louise died in the 1860’s. J.H. Perkins, I believe to be Hampton Perkins. Caroline is his sister. “Chalness” may be a married name for Hampton’s other sister Amelia, thus the “A.H.” The census indicates her as a sister. There is also a nephew of J.H. Perkins, listed as J.W. Chalness (b.1867.) I have accounted for Calvin and Louise’s other children. Their daughter Mary Louise Perkins married Dr. Jeptha Vining Harris and is found in Monroe County, FL this census year (1880). Her brother Luther is also in the Harris household. The only remaining child is the Calvin Perkins who married Susan Ashton Chapman, and they are found in Lowndes Co, MS, where Calvin and Louise lived and raised this family. If anyone can provide further information on this family, or can correct my assumptions, please do! Mary Louise Perkins was my ggg-grandmother. Julie Notify Administrator about this message?
