Pennington-Perkins
I am very interested in the marriage of A(o)rad Pekins and Mary Polly Pennington which presumably took place at New Haven, CT about 1789.My GGG grandmother was Tabitha Pennington (born 1806 Ashe Co.,NC).Her brother was Arad Pennington, born around 1808. They were the children of Wells Pennington (1781-1857) and Elizabeth Strunk (1779-1852). Arad is a rare name, and I believe Arad Pennington must have been named for Arad Perkins.Arad Pennington's ancestors may have also come down from New Haven, CT at a much earlier time. One of the first Pennington's in America was Ephraim who was in New Haven around 1635. The name Ephraim Pennington also shows up much later (late 1700s/early 1800's) in the Ashe Co.,NC/Grayson County, VA area.At least some members of the Perkins family as well as the Pennington family in the area apparently were Loyalists which caused them considerable trouble. Wells Pennington, I suspect, may have been named for Zechariah Wells, the Tory who was hanged by Benjamin Cleveland about 1781.There are just too many coincidences here that I can't prove. I believe the Pennington's in western NC should be traceable to Connecticut. I believe the Pennington and Perkins families may have been closely aligned for a very long time. Want to hear from anyone who can add to all this.
