MARY GRAVES
Does anyone know the origin of the "Hazleton" reference associated with Mary Graves, wife of Samuel Perham b.1698? I have seen GEDCOMs that say she was first married to Stephen Hazleton, but the Chelmsford VR show now Hazletons. There is a Mary Graves who married a Stephen Hazleton in NH, but she was called Molly and their marriage took place in 1742, long after her reputed marriage to Samuel. I think that the NH Molly Graves was the daughter of Samuel Graves, while the MA Mary who married Samuel Perham was the daughter of Moses Graves. Since the Mary Graves who sued Samuel for paternity in the Chelmsford court was listed as a single woman, she was not likely married to Stephen Hazleton previously. Could Hazleton have been a middle name? We're reasonably sure that the Samuel who was born in 1736 to Mary Graves and Samuel Perham was the husband of Mary Hudson and father of our Darius,b. 1762 in Balltown. Does anyone know if the first Samuel followed up in his own defense and continued to deny his paternity in the next court session? Or, did he simply capitulate and marry her before Asa was born in 1738? These two certainly offer plenty of food for thought.
